Climate Change and Energy Conservation PDF Print E-mail
“Climate change isn’t just an alarming concept.  It’s real.  And it’s having an impact right here in District 66.  We need to put aside half-measures and move full-speed ahead into a new era of investment, technological development, conservation, and individual action.  It won’t all be easy, but we have to look at this challenge as an opportunity…and now.”  - Grey Frandsen, April 19, 2008, in Lake Elsinore, CA

Read Grey's entire plan of action for addressing climate change and resource shortages in District 66:

SUMMARY OF GREY’S PLAN

Grey’s focus on addressing climate change, environmental conservation, and energy shortages is divided into three categories of action:  establishing new regulations to reduce greenhouse gases; market incentives and investment in new technologies and efforts to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels; and individual and household-level action.
  • Grey’s plan proactively addresses resource shortages, pollution, and rising costs at the local and state level by spurring investment, smart economic growth, and increased energy conservation.
  • Grey will strive to protect American companies and local businesses. He believes that addressing energy and environmental issues aren’t zero-sum for our community or businesses. We must generate new jobs, new technology, and new investments in critical areas while addressing critical environmental and energy resource issues.
  • The time for action is now. This isn’t alarmist or narrow-minded. This is about securing the prosperity of our economy in coming decades and the health of future generations.

OVERVIEW OF GREY’S POSITION:

The bottom-line:  climate change is real, is happening now, and is the result of human activity.  We are experiencing volatile fluctuations in our environment which are affecting how we live and work.  Droughts are more prevalent, making the consequences of wildfires in our District even more dangerous.  Water is becoming scarcer, raising the costs of living in the District.  And gas prices are at all-time highs, cutting in to everyone’s pocketbook at a time when wages aren’t going up.  Our current course is bad for both our health and our economy.

When elected, Grey will work to:

  • Cut electricity use in homes, offices, and stores by 45% over the next ten years. This will require the introduction of incentives, assistance, and information campaigns related to energy consumption and alternative energy sources.
  • Create more aggressive building emission standards, MPG requirements, and gross polluter laws - and immediately, not in 20 years.
  • Increase solar and wind power usage in District 66 by 50% over the next ten years. Help create new alternative energy facilities and infrastructure within the region to support growing electricity demand while also preserving important environmental sanctuaries and parks.
  • Increase citizen involvement in energy conservation and enhance incentives at the household level to conserve.
  • Turn District 66 into a regional and national hub of green technology R&D, including new “green technologies”, scientific research efforts, and testing grounds for new alternative energy sources.
  • Secure funding for a Green Collar Corps that will create 2,500+ jobs in District 66, as well as enhance our workforces’ ability to meet new needs of our economy in the coming decades.
  • Improve transportation infrastructure to reduce pollution and costs generated by commuters by establishing Green Pass, toll-roads, light rail, and new employment opportunities within the District.

September 3, 2008: Grey releases his Foreclosure Crisis Relief Plan

The mortgage crisis is having a huge impact on families in District 66. Families are being forced out of their homes in record numbers and foreclosed homes are changing the dynamics of communities throughout our region. Grey believes that every American should have the opportunity to own a home and that strong communities are the cornerstone of our society. In times like this, we must work hard to support families impacted by this crisis, respond to support our communities, and protect our economy.

Education PDF Print E-mail
Grey is passionate about public education. As a product of public schools, the son of a school teacher, and a father of two young children, Grey believes that increasing resources available for public schools is critical.

Grey's focus areas relating to education include:
  • Fighting Governor’s Budget Cuts. Will work to protect funding for education and reinstate funding that has been or is projected to be cut by the Governor’s irresponsible budget cuts in the education sector. Reject the Governor’s proposal to cut $4.8 billion and work hard to protect Proposition 98 funding protections.
  • No on NCLB. Revise, rewrite, and re-authorize, and implement new legislation at the national and state levels to help our schools improve and help enhance the quality of education for our children.
  • Quality Education Investment Act (QEIA). Support this legislation, in addition to finding new ways to support schools that rank towards the bottom of the Academic Performance Index (API) and that serve low income and underperforming students. Will work to reduce class sizes, improve teacher and principal training, hire more school counselors, and give local school districts the resources and authority to support programs that best fit the needs of their students.
  • Teacher Pay. Will work to increase teacher pay, as well as to increase the resources available to school districts for continuing education, retention, recruitment, and incentivizing our educational professionals. Will also work to help close the disparity in earnings between male and female teachers.
Other key issues:
Supportive of charter schools;
Supportive of collective bargaining;
Supportive of collective bargaining;
Will work aggressively to reform state’s healthcare system; and
Supportive of and will work for a reduction in class sizes
